Beaumont is a city nestled along the banks of Lake Champlain in upstate New York. All sorts of people flock here for it's scenic lakefront views and thriving greenery, which are uncommon among cities this size. Once a small New England farming community, it emerged as a college town surrounding the Beaumont Institute for Liberal Arts.
With a train stop right between Montreal and New York City, it's emerged as a cultural center for both young creative students and couples looking to settle down somewhere less chaotic than their own cities.
But behind the greenery and the thriving art and music scenes, Beaumont has a lot more to it than meets the eye. There are the typical class struggles, between the rich residents and trust-funding college students with their big wallets and those living in poverty on the other side of town.
In a place like Beaumont, everyone fits in somewhere. Where will you be?
Summer, 2010
Beaumont is experiencing nice summer weather, with highs in the mid-90's and lows in the mind-70's. Sudden thunderstorms or to be expected, interrupting the long stretches of sunny days.

CLASSROOM BUILDING The function of this building is pretty self explanatory. The largest of BILA's buildings, it takes up an entire city block and was once a huge office building during the 1830's. In addition to housing regular classrooms, it's home to art studios, an auditorium in the basement, a roof garden, and a number of science labs.

KAFKA CAFE The school's cafeteria, named after the late Franz Kafka, who had no connection to the school what-so-ever, the Dean just liked his work. It has a wide selection of food, from Asian vegetarian to burgers and fries.

NORTH HARBOR It's the wealthiest part of the city, with fancy restaurants, high-rise apartment buildings, luxury condominiums right along the waterfront, lakefront parks, paddle-boat rentals, you name it. If there's anything you can think of in a fancy neighborhood, it's here.
SOUTH HARBOR This area is largely industrial and is home to the dockyards, where shipping sailors load and unload their cargo into the city. One famous destination in the area, though, is the Beaumont Brewery, where local beer is made. The area is also home to an emerging art scene, where locals in-the-know take advantage of huge warehouse spaces with cheap rent for both studios and apartments. It doesn't hurt, either that it is home to the new Mountain City Art Space, a huge art museum located inconspicuously inside of what used to be a potato chip factory.
OLD CITY This part of town is home to much of the city's original quaint architecture, and is a favorite spot for tourists and locals alike. Apartments here are small, but in a great location so people don't really complain. The Beaumont Institute for Liberal Arts is located here. It's also home a good number of the city's favorite cafe's, nice restaurants, record stores, thrift stores, etc. It's a lot like the Greenwich Village in NYC.
MORRIS COUNTY This is the ghetto of Beaumont, with the highest violent crime rate in the city. It's home to the city's red light district, the strip clubs, the casinos, the brothels, and so on. People of other neighborhoods are generally warned to stay out.
